Dark Days in Blacksburg

Our hearts and prayers go out to the victims, their families, and our colleagues at Virginia Tech University.

LACUNY condemns violence of any kind. We aspire to a university that creates an open and safe learning environment for its students, faculty, and staff.

As citizens in a democracy - and library faculty of the nation's largest urban public university - we promote and protect the exchange of a diverse set of ideas. We are committed to dialogue and the need to disagree respectfully in a quest to reach understanding about our differences, which enhances our shared humanity.

In times of crisis, we respectfully urge the City University of New York to revisit its individual campus emergency plans, as well as commit resources to strengthen support and counseling services for our students, so timely interventions can be made.

In closing, we counsel harmony, discussion, understanding, and peace.
